The heritage of the Cape Coloured tells a story of colonialism and slavery. Cape Coloureds are a racial mixture of Southern African Bantu (Zulu, Ndebele, Nguni), Khoi-San (Indigenous Peoples), Indian, Malay and Germanic origins.  From the Dutch and English colonising of the cape, bringing slaves/servants from India and South East Asian countries, the Boer Wars in which battle for supremacy were fought between the Dutch, English and Zulu and in the 20th century, Apartheid which coined the term ‘Coloured’ which was designated to this particular mixed ethno-group.  Much like the Stolen Generation here in Australia, Coloured peoples have a complicated relationship with the Afrikaners and colonisers of South Africa as they are both, kin and oppressors. Due to the white supremacist structures influencing identity politics, many direct links to culture have been erased or purposely hidden and forgotten.
