Artist Statement:
This piece was done for a zine which was released in conjunction with Rebirth's 7" EP "Rising Dissent" This was the centrefold image and conveyed the idea that compassion had been crucified (nails in the heart) in the wake of so much hatred and suffering (crown of thorns) and can be seen as a direct illustration of the lyrics "The flowers of hatred, wreathed upon our heads. Fear of change, fear of death". Christian iconography was used as the song was criticizing Australia's "Christian values" in the wake of racist, xenophobic attitudes by the government and public.
